GitHub announced several days ago their intention to rename the master branch on the main GitHub interface. This stirred up some thoughts I had about this and renaming “offensive” technological terms altogether, so I decided to make a post.
Disclaimer Let’s get things straight first. I respect the rights of all people to be who they are, and support diversity efforts in technology. Please don’t go around claiming I hold extremist views as a result of the very narrowly-addressed opinion here.
I just finished my final presentation of my entire BS and MS career on Tuesday, so I’ve been going through old school files and cleaning them up.
Today, I came across a short piece I wrote sophomore year for a Dean’s Scholars seminar on happiness and positive psychology. The topic was just to write a short piece about something you believed in. Enjoy! The last line is a quote from Nichijou, by the way.
What is this? I’ve liked many things throughout the years. While some have fallen out of my attention, others remain firmly cemented in my memories and feelings. So, I’ve decided to start a mini-series where each week (hopefully), I pick something random that I like or have liked and discuss it, why I like it, and its impact on me. These things can be varied, and range from more trivial matters such as my favourite animal, to books, games, and movies I’ve liked, to topics that have shaped who I am as a person.
It’s my tenth and final semester at the University of Texas at Austin, so I thought I’d rage a bit comment on which classes I enjoyed the most and least. This will be a random discussion, and won’t exhaustively include every class I’ve ever taken. Perhaps some current UT students will find this of use.
I’ve separated them into three major tiers. “Low tier” are the classes that I despised or were an absolute joke.
In the past week, I’ve been working on an unofficial port of Patchouli from Forge 1.14 to Fabric 1.15.
My reasons for this are twofold:
People have made claims about Forge’s problems, both with its technical aspects and its organizational aspects (some of which I feel), and pushed Fabric as a solution Making a judgment on X vs Y is invalid if you haven’t used both X and Y Anyways, Patchouli, for those who don’t know, is a guide book mod by Vazkii for Forge.
yeashie and Crested both posted fangame thoughts for 2019 so I thought I’d join in on the fun as well. I don’t think my opinions are deep enough to assign scores to these games, so I’ll just stick with a relative ranking.
Demos You could treat this as a “which games am I most excited for” ranking.
1st place: Abyss Soul Lotus (Demo 2) Cleared?: Lunatic
This is cheating since ASL came out last year, but my hype for this game just keeps getting stronger and stronger.
I saw Frozen II today. My impressions are mixed-positive, but that’ll be for another article.
Today I’ll do an initial rankdown of the feature songs in the movie. Overall, I thought the songs fit more cohesively into the story than Frozen I, but Frozen I’s best songs (read: For the First Time In Forever and its Reprise) still win out. Frozen I also had the problem where the songs were all front-loaded and the rest of the movie was pretty dry, which isn’t the case in Frozen II.
TLDR: Life updates and musings from the past 5-8 years. In order: CS, Music, Life, Future Plans. Feel free to skip parts that don’t interest you.
Looks like I’m going to be graduating soon. This semester, my class load has been substantially lighter, which naturally leaves me lots of time to reflect on my feelings about the past 4+ years at UT and high school (and also to play games). I thought I’d write it down, so if you’ve been wondering what I’ve been up to, or you got tagged, here’s your one stop shop to find out.
Touhou 17 Wily Beast and Weakest Character came out yesterday night, and oh boy it was a solid great out of game.
I only cleared normal due to an arm injury so I’ll refrain from commenting on the gameplay too much, but the music I have enough listens throughout today to form a ranking. Without further ado, here we go.
EDIT December 4: More changes
Move stage 4 up more Move stage 5 up EDIT August 17: After some more listening, I’ve made the following changes:
Just wanted to proudly announce that my first ever translation work has been released!
I helped translate the Phantasm stage dialogue for the very well known fangame Fantastic Danmaku Festival 2, as well as the music room comments from Chinese to English. This marks the first time my work has actually made it into a game, and it’s such a big one too!
I love the Touhou community with all my heart, and hopefully this is just the first of many contributions I can make to it!
